Hamburger Mary’s: Old-fashioned diner, mains $12-15. Vintage diner feel, this is what typical American diners in the 60s looked like – so long as you believe Hollywood. Open 21 hours a day, Hamburger Mary’s is the place for breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night snack or an any-hour-of-the-day milkshake craving. Suggestions: breakfast scrambles, burgers and milkshakes. Website Map
Samurai Sushi. Japanese/Sushi. Excellent vegetarian options. Expect dinner to cost $15/person. If Kadoya is too full for your liking Samurai is across the road. More comfortable feel than Kadoya, but the specialty rolls aren’t as good. Still, excellent Japanese food at reasonable prices. Suggestions: Any appetizers. Website Map
Dharma Kitchen: Asian take on other cuisine. Vegan. Mains around $10. If you are into being one with the universe, Dharma Kitchen is the place for you. It is very zen. Of course, if you are just into great food, Dharma Kitchen is also for you. Burgers, rice bowls, salads and curries dominate the menu and everything is good, filling and full of healthy goodness. Suggestions: Tempeh burgers, Nu Cao bowl and anything with Tempeh in it. Website Map
Falafully Good: Falafels, kebabs, donairs and other middle Eastern Cuisine. Excellent vegetarian options Mains: $5-7. As an added bonus to the best Falafels in town, you get the cheapest beer in town: $3.50 for a pint and $9 for a jug. As an added bonus, it is good beer too, from Victoria’s Lighthouse Brewing. Everything on the menu is good and they have week day specials. Suggestions: Nothing beats a falafel and a beer! Website Map
The Boathouse: Seafood, mains around $25. People complain that there is no Red Lobster in Vancouver. We have, however, The Boathouse (or, more correctly, The Boathouses, since it is a chain). $25 for a main may be a bit of an aberration on this list, but if you want excellent seafood in a high quality restaurant, it is well worth it. If you’re looking for the experience, but don’t want to pay the prices, try their Appy Hour Specials. Suggestions: Anything seafood! Website Map
Kingston II Reggae Café: Jamaican. Mains $12-$15. Not sure what reggae has to do with this place, but it has some unreal Jamaican food. The menu’s always changing, but if it’s available try the goat curry or the oxtail. Website Map
