Spirits

For the most part, you’ll find the same spirits and liquor brands that you would anywhere else, and I can’t think of any that are locally produced. However, there are some from around Canada that you should watch out for (some in good, some in bad ways).

Alberta Premium brand makes a number of standard spirits – whisky and vodka for sure, maybe others. Although they are fine for mixing, I would advise strongly against drinking them straight.

You may have heard of Canadian Rye Whisky (and maybe even tried Canadian Club), but you probably didn’t know that Canadian ‘Rye’ Whisky is actually almost never made from Rye. Still, if there is one liquor that Canada does well, it is Whisky. Crown Royal is generally considered to be the best, but I find that 40 Creek (can be hard to find) is much better. For sipping, or mixing, I believe it is the best Whisky you’ll find in Vancouver (unless you’re going to spend an insane amount of money on a very good Whisky).
